Weave a Trug

Come and weave a useful and beautiful garden trug perfect for collecting produce from the garden or eggs from your hens.

With skilful instruction from Justine Burgess (West Wales Willows) you will learn how to weave a handle, tie it in to the pre-formed rim with a God’s Eye weave, add ribs and use a range of colourful willow to weave the basket itself.

Sew a beautiful gardener’s smock with Camille Jacquemart of Thimble Studios.

Camille has a wealth of knowledge and experience of teaching sewing at all levels. A fashion graduate with experience of working with Alexander McQueen and Fred Butler she now runs Thimble Studios teaching sewing to people across West Wales.

Make a copper Trowel

Part of Oriel Myrddin Gallery's 'Garden Ready' series.

Learn how to make a copper garden trowel from recycled plumbing pipe and native hardwood. Create the ideal implement for planting out bulbs and seedlings with repurposing expert Henry Sears. You will learn to use a range of tools and techniques including hacksawing, filing, sanding and polishing copper and cleaving, paring, planing and sanding the wooden handle. Fitting the handle using a wheelwright’s tenon tool and riveting the blade onto the handle.

Throw your own plant pots

Part of Oriel Myrddin Gallery’s ‘Garden Ready’ series

At Mill Rundle Pottery, Dolwerdd, Drefach Felindre, SA44 5UG

Create a beautiful plant pot suitable for indoors or outside. Simon Day of Millrundle Pottery will lead you through the process from preparing the clay and centring on the wheel to throwing. Simon is a potter with more than 40 years’ experience making domestic stone wear and creates ceramics for Michelin starred restaurants. The pots will be fired and glazed and returned to participants via the gallery.

~~Have a handmade sustainable Christmas this year! Join us for a morning making plaster and wire tree decorations. Learn how to make your own unique clay mould using natural objects then cast in plaster and paint. During waiting times in the casting process we will make simple and beautiful wire decorations. Suitable for adults and children 8+

Festive Wreath / Torchau Nadoligaidd

~Join Emma Powell for this festive workshop and learn how to create your own fresh and green Christmas wreath using locally foraged greenery.
Emma will be on hand to guide you through the step by step method of decorating your willow based wreath and sharing her floristry knowledge. This will be a fun and relaxed event to kick off the festive season with only six participants in each session. Taking place in the main gallery space, you will be able to take in and draw inspiration from our opulent Dutch still—life inspired winter show Y Bwrdd // The Table.
