Culture Colony Vision's picture

On 09.06.22, Culture Colony will be broadcasting their first edition of Noson Gelf / Art Night. Our host Eddie Ladd, has spent decades in showbusiness and will be making a return akin to "a gunslinger coming out of retirement, for one last job".

This will be the first of our monthly magazine arts programmes that will span over the course of 6 months. Noson Gelf / Art Night will include a variety of arts and cultural content, giving audiences 5 hours of broadcasting in Welsh and English. The show will give you a variety of material to pick from in the schedule, so when you find something that peaks your interest, you can tune in as and when it suits you. The show will also include 1 hour of dedicated Welsh programming as well as another hour of solely English content.

Former BBC presenter, Eddie Ladd, will be returning to our screen's again to present Noson Gelf / Art Night. Her last role presenting was over 30 years ago, where she worked on 'The Slate', an important arts programme for the BBC that ran from 1991 to 1993. This is where Eddie first met Culture Colony founder, Pete Telfer, one of the directors on The Slate team at the time. Pete said "it's like making the circle whole again. I've worked with Eddie on several of her projects over the years, but now we're back making a programme together that is for, and about, artists again". Before The Slate Eddie hosted 'Fideo 9', an influential music show that featured bands from the time that went on to birth 'Cool Cymru' and the likes of Super Furry Animals, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Catatonia to list only a few. This aired on S4C in the late 1980s.

Eddie worked with a number of Welsh theatre companies, and primarily with Brith Gof for a decade until the year 2000. Her own work dates from 1989, with some shows staged in theatres (covering the stage with turf, or a running machine or in flour). Others have been site-specific, in terrace houses, farmyards and fields. A number have toured all over Europe. She has used new technologies from the very beginning and received a NESTA fellowship in 2002 to develop this element in her work. During the first lockdown of 2020 she presented a new online-format piece on her farm and area, Fy Ynys Las, and since then has had the pleasure of collaborating with the people of Llandysul on Sinema Teifi and taking a hymns-and-ices trip with a real ice cream van through Ceredigion.

During this broadcast, we will have 2 special guests in Bethan Dear and Sam Robinson. Bethan is a performer who recently performed her "How To Be Well In A World That Is Sick" piece at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre. The show was produced by Jackdaw Theatre, a company co-founded by Bethan who produce theatrical based art. Our second guest is Sam Robinson, a poet and shepherd who is local to Machynlleth. He also makes his own cider and plays the bodhrán. As well as all of this, we will be showcasing a plethora of films from Culture Colony and other filmmakers across the UK. The programme will air live on AM on Culture Colony's page at 5:30pm - 10:30pm: https://www.amam.cymru/culturecolony.
