Gandini Juggling: Sigma
Event type:
Thursday, February 6, 2020 - 19:30

Sigma is a spectacular cross art-from production from Gandini Juggling with dazzling Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer Seeta Patel. The production showcases exuberant rhythms, patterns and colours, celebrating the dialogue between the worlds of juggling, music and classical Indian dance.

Sigma is performed by a virtuosic cast, which includes Seeta Patel & Indu Panday - specialists in Bharatanatyam and Kati Ylä-Hokkala & Kim Huynh - pioneering jugglers from Gandini Juggling. The lighting design is by renowned designer Guy Hoare who frames the space architecturally, adding to the complex patterns made by balls and limbs. Multimedia projections by Zsolt Balogh compliment the onstage action where projection is used to introduce abstract geometry and act as a visual counterpoint to the flow and rhythm of the juggling. Multi-layered composition from Andy Cowton and costume design by Lydia Cawson add depth and texture to the piece successfully weaving all into an assault on the senses.

Sigma premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival August 2017 winning a Total Theatre Award for Best Visual Theatre production and the Asian Arts Award for Directing. Gandini Juggling also won a Herald Archangel Award as recognition for their work over the last 25 years. The production is a midscale piece and is available for touring. The production has completed an ACE supported UK tour as well as being performed in Italy, Belgium, Hong Kong, Macau and Canada.
