The Other Room Theatre presents: The Violence Series

The Other Room Theatre

THE VIOLENCE SERIES

American Nightmare | The Story | Hela

THE VIOLENCE SERIES is a trio of dystopian dramas – American Nightmare by Matthew Bulgo, The Story by Tess Berry-Hart and Hela by Mari Izzard – set in a world that is familiar but on fire. Commissioned and produced by The Other Room for their Autumn 2019 season, each play explores the themes that divide us and asks profound questions about the darker side of humanity. When does an act become violent? Should we really fight fire with fire? And how far would you go to avoid it?

Gandini Juggling: Sigma

Sigma

Sigma is a spectacular cross art-from production from Gandini Juggling with dazzling Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer Seeta Patel. The production showcases exuberant rhythms, patterns and colours, celebrating the dialogue between the worlds of juggling, music and classical Indian dance.

Sui Generis - the Possibilities of a House

66 projects from 62 creatives fill the entirety of Plas Bodfa, a currently empty manor house in Llangoed on the Isle of Anglesey. This remarkably multi-disciplinary group art exhibition explores the idea of ‘sui generis’, a Latin phrase meaning "of its (his, her, their) own kind; in a class by itself; unique”. It has been adopted by the legal profession for unusual buildings, properties that fall outside normal designation.

Ardal O'Hanlon: The Showing Off Must Go On

Ardal O’Hanlon, star of Death in Paradise, Father Ted, and My Hero (BBC), continues to tour his acclaimed stand-up shows worldwide. Because he loves it. And it’s a compulsion. And the world is a funny place.

Susie Dent: The Secret Lives of Words

Take a journey into the curious, unexpected, and downright surreal origins of the words we use every day. Susie will retell the adventures that lie hidden within such words as lasagne (involving a chamber pot) and bugbear (a terrorising monster), and explain such oddities as the silent h in ghost and the mysterious disappearance of kempt, gormful, and ruly (and yes, you really can be gruntled).

Mark Watson

Cluster-bombed with yoghurt on 'Taskmaster', half-killed on 'Bear Grylls' Celebrity Island', Watson returns to what he's best at: being indoors.

Inspired by the mostly alarming state of the world his children are growing up in, and a genuine, urgent desire to do something about it, this show is about empathy. 99 percent of the world's population is made up of other people: why can't we understand them? As scrawny and impassioned as ever, one of the UK's most beloved and thinnest acts offers some suggestions, with his usual notoriously high joke- and-rant-per-minute rate.
